Barry Forshaw writes: Derelict is a tense new independent crime drama directed by Jonathan Zaurin (based on events in his hometown in France) and co-wrtten by my colleague Kat Ellinger. Abigail is a socially isolated, angry young woman who is struggling to come to terms with the brual murder of her father some years prior. When she learns that one of her father’s murderers is about to be released from prison, Abi sets herself on a path of revenge. Matt is a young man whose life gets turned upside down by the return of his brother Ewan. The destinies of these lost souls crosses in ways that will tragically shape their lives.The film is inspired by actual events which took place in the director’s home town. Jonathan Zaurin was born in 1984 in the little town of Audincourt, France. Passionate about film from a very young age, he realised that he wanted to tell stories with images. He discovered the cinema of John Carpenter, a film master whose work will prove deeply influential on Jonathan’s own filmmaking, In 2006 he met his wife Sarah and moved to the UK. Together they produced a series of award winning short films with Sarah acting as producer and often also as writer. Working professionally as a filmmaker Jonathan has made dozens of films both commercial and personal, gathering an array of awards from a wide variety of international festivals along the way. Portrait(s), Dirt and The Pit and Santa Baby all proved to be big short film successes in festivals, and all three films were made for budgets under £300.
In 2020 Jonathan, in collaboration with LBS Films and Solo Productions, undertook the production of a feature film titled Wyvern Hill, a super low budget indie horror written by TV Writer Keith Temple (Dr Who). Since 2021 Jonathan has been working day and night on a multitude of projects, one of them being the new film Derelict.
